Maintenance

Thatchsure’s inclusive maintenance procedure follows a four-step plan:

  • Roof evaluation, quantifying all factors contributing to the lifetime of the roof
  • Recommendations based on the evaluation, with time-related weathering and cost indicators
  • Maintenance of the roof in accordance with these recommendations
  • A yearly thatch weathering report submitted to the owner, fire department and
    relevant insurance company.

Apply to the most up-to-date unique thatch preservation method (SA Patent granted), new and old roofs are cleaned of rot, then treated with biodegradable, clear-coat thatch protection and fire-retardant spray. The SABS-tested system dramatically reduces the thatch’s combustibility; prevents the “slow fire” of fungal decay; while also protecting against:
  • Insect, bird and animal damage
  • The ingress of dust, sand and wind
  • Dry rot and beetle infestation
  • Damaging moisture levels and UV rays
  • Frequent recompacting and removal of weathering stems
  • Water-logging
  • Forced replacement of the roof cover
Once a project has been finished, Thatchsure will carry yearly inspections for the duration of the roof’s life, to detect potential weaknesses before they develop. All Thatchsure roofs hold a transferrable lifetime guarantee, subject to Thatchsure's roof report. The unique Thatchsure package, comprising consultation, construction, maintenance and inspection can increase the roof’s life expectancy three-fold.
Additionally, when compared to most other thatching techniques, your initial will be returned rapidly ensuring your house is always a marketable commodity.
